Reinforcing School Safety as a Priority
Solar Gard, the San Diego-based leader in window film technologies, announced its partnership with the New York State PTA as part of a company-wide commitment to improving school safety. This initiative is the first of many important steps being made by Solar Gard toward a national priority of keeping children and staff safe while on school campuses.
With the alarming increase in violent attacks on school campuses, the partnership will serve as a platform to expand critical awareness of the protective properties of Solar Gard’s Armorcoat® Safety & Security Window Film. Armorcoat is a cost-effective solution that helps mitigate unwanted intrusion and injuries due to glass fragmentation and has been trusted for over 40 years by global landmarks, government properties, and school districts alike.
“We’re thrilled to partner with Solar Gard as an Alliance partner, as they share a common mission: keeping our kids safe,” says Kyle Belokopitsky, NYS PTA executive director. “Our focus has always been – and will continue to be – student safety, and this partnership is necessary for us to continue to provide students and staff with an added layer of protection in the case of a potential attack.”
Working hand-in-hand with Solar Gard, NYS PTA is spearheading the presentation of Armorcoat® Safety & Security Window Film to New York’s elected officials, school districts and PTA chapters, informing legislators, superintendents and parents of the necessity of adding window film as a protective barrier against violent attackers. NYS PTA, in their school security initiative ‘Every Child, Their Safety,” had previously called for schools to review policies and practices, including potential use of security window film, and other technologies such as one button lockdown system and uniform school mapping procedures for law enforcement personnel.
“We are actively committed to protecting today’s teachers and students with our security solutions,” says Lindsay Webdell, channel market manager – Americas at Solar Gard. “With hundreds of thousands of students enrolled in more than 4,000 public schools across New York, this is a critical jumpstart for improving school safety. With the help of the New York PTA, we will be able to boost momentum behind the message that children across the nation should be kept safe with our window films and other protective measures.”
The Locust Valley School District in Nassau County, Long Island, has already benefitted from the initiative. Armorcoat® is currently being installed throughout its buildings as part of the first phase of a five-school project.
